What comes to mind when you think of the word “connection?” Well, the dictionary definition goes a little something like this…
a relationship in which a person, thing, or idea is linked or associated with something else.
“the connections between social attitudes and productivity”
a situation in which two or more things have the same cause, origin, goal, etc.
Now that you are refreshed with the definition of connection…what comes to mind when you think of the word “selfless?”
concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with one’s own; unselfish.
“an act of selfless devotion”
We live in a world that is constantly changing. It is so fast and so rapid that it can quickly change without us ever really knowing it and the scary thing is we are unsure what the change will actually be. Will it be happy, will it be sad, will it be planned or will it be a complete and utter shock to our core?! Salon Citrene was looking for change, we were looking to make someone’s day better! We provide it every single day with our guests, but as stylists we were looking for a way to better ourselves and our community…that is when the connection between Salon Citrene and Gazelle Girl Half Marathon ignited.
It amazes me that a single call can make such a huge impact on an individual’s life. The trickle affect that one positive, selfless action can provide for a group of people is quite incredible. What I am trying to describe is somewhat difficult without sounding totally cheesy. However, trust me when I say that helping others is just plain awesome, you should really try it sometime…it may change your life. It is such a beautiful circle, that if you continually practice the art of giving (living within the circle), you will really make an impact on others and leave a heartwarming imprint within their thoughts and their actions.
We ladies at Salon Citrene are all running the half marathon on April 13th and we are thoroughly excited about it! We are so ramped up to get out there, encourage health and power through that pavement…rain or shine! Not only will we feel connected with one another, but we will feel more engaged with our community and the beautiful women running the race.
This past week, we rocked out 4 HUGE make overs within our salon. We worked with Gazelle Girl to get 4 women in from the charities that benefit from all the profits made from the race. These non-profits include YWCA, Girls on the Run, D.A. Blodgett St. John’s and GROW. These women came in with open minds & open hearts. They were able to sit back, relax and enjoy the company of other new women. Kangaroo Kitchen, which is located next to our salon, was so generous to donate lunches for the ladies. If you haven’t tried their food…it is absolutely delicious! Chef Roman changes it up every single day by using the freshest of ingredients. His flavors are like fireworks in your mouth…unlike any flavor combinations you may have tasted before. You should definitely check him out and support yet another amazing restaurant in town!
Now a little about 2 of the ladies that participated in our makeovers…
This woman below was so wonderful…her name is Aura. She is a young mother that is associated with D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s Home. She is bright, beautiful and so sweet. She had never stepped foot into a salon and has not had her haircut in four years. She soaked up every second of the makeover…all the way down to the lip gloss. Her heart was overflowing with joy once she got up and saw herself. It was an emotional moment…the best one of the whole day in our opinion. Shelby was her stylist and it was clear how well they worked together! So AWESOME!
This next woman is Sarai Contreras. She was just a delight to work with. She came from the YWCA and was extremely open to big change. As you can see below we colored, cut and even went as far as bangs! As most stylists feel, making big changes on a person is really fun so when this happens we take full advantage! This is what we live for in our career!
Salon Citrene feels super blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful afternoon making an impact of women’s lives. As an all-woman salon we feel that this was a perfect fit to work with a race focused on all women. We have had a great experience working with Gazelle Girl and look forward to future adventures together!
We want to wish all the runners an enjoyable run and cannot wait to join them on the course!
